Joel Doiron 2011 Season in Review; Slow Starting Season Highlighted by Feature Win at Cornwall Speedway in July

When the 2011 racing season began, optimism was high for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario 358 Modified team.  They had a brand new car and a fresh new look going into the season, and they were anxious to get on track and get the new season underway.

As the season began, Doiron struggled early, trying to get a handle on their brand new Bicknell chassis.  For the first few weeks of the year, the car just would not react the way they anticipated.  The fact that the track was unusually rough due to the large amount of rain early in the season didn’t help, and it seemed that the track had a different feel each week for the first several weeks of the season.

By July, Doiron was running much better, and the results were beginning to show, as he posted a third place finish at Cornwall on July 10th, and backed that up the following race at Cornwall with his first and only win of the year.  Doiron was beginning to climb the standings over the next few weeks, and by the middle of August he was up to third place.  With three races remaining, Doiron was in a great position to chase down the point leader and win a second Cornwall Speedway championship, but with three consecutive rainouts to end the year, Doiron had to settle for third in points. ....[read more]
