Joel Doiron 2011 Season in Review; Slow Starting Season Highlighted by Feature Win at Cornwall Speedway in July

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - October 22, 2011

When the 2011 racing season began, optimism was high for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario 358 Modified team.  They had a brand new car and a fresh new look going into the season, and they were anxious to get on track and get the new season underway.

As the season began, Doiron struggled early, trying to get a handle on their brand new Bicknell chassis.  For the first few weeks of the year, the car just would not react the way they anticipated.  The fact that the track was unusually rough due to the large amount of rain early in the season didn’t help, and it seemed that the track had a different feel each week for the first several weeks of the season.

By July, Doiron was running much better, and the results were beginning to show, as he posted a third place finish at Cornwall on July 10th, and backed that up the following race at Cornwall with his first and only win of the year.  Doiron was beginning to climb the standings over the next few weeks, and by the middle of August he was up to third place.  With three races remaining, Doiron was in a great position to chase down the point leader and win a second Cornwall Speedway championship, but with three consecutive rainouts to end the year, Doiron had to settle for third in points.

Doiron also finished the year in fifth place in the Canadian National Series, and third overall in his family sponsored Doiron Engineering Cup.  He ends the 2011 season with one win, six top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes in just 18 events this season.

“We are pleased with our performance during the second half of the year”, says Doiron as he reflects on his 2011 season.  “We got off to such a slow start, and then to have the last three races rained out really hurt us.  It would have been nice to have those races to see how the points championship would have played out”.

Our 2011 racing season would not be possible without the assistance of our great sponsors. Mike Sauvé Construction, Doiron Auto Inc., W.H. MacSweyn Inc., Gauvreau Top Soil, Walker Climate Care/Go Geo, Falcon Environmental Services, Mister Sew and Sew Custom Embroidery, Garage Le Specialiste Dicaire, Herbs Travel Plaza & Towing, Group Express, Glengarry Kitchen Cabinets, Richard Ranger Carpet, Au Vieux Duluth, Boutique Lafleur, Quechem, Garry McDougall Electric, Gouttieres SD Eavesthroughs, Marc Rouette Maintenance, Les Fondations Deguire and Bicknell Racing Products have all been an integral part of the success that this team has had this season.

Doiron Battles to a 16th Place Finish in Mr. DIRTcar 358 Series Event at Cornwall

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - September 29, 2011

When Joel Doiron last visited Cornwall back at the beginning of the month, he has set fast time in his time trial group, and was to start on the front row for his heat race before Mother Nature stepped in and the event was rescheduled.  On Sunday afternoon the event picked up where they had left off, and Doiron started up front in his qualifying heat, and was able to grab the win in the eight lap qualifier, giving him a spot in the redraw for one of the top 12 starting spots in the 125 lap Mr. DIRTcar Series/Canadian Nationals Series main event.

The redraw took place in front of a packed grandstand at Cornwall during driver introductions.  Doiron drew the 11th position, placing him inside of the sixth row for the feature.  First the first 50 laps, Doiron stayed just inside the top ten and as they closed in on the 10 minute break at lap 75, he had advanced even higher climbing to seventh place.  Doiron’s crew went to work on the car during the ten minute break, which took place on the track.  They were able to change tires and refuel the car and make minor adjustments to the car under the ten minute clock.  When the race resumed, the handling on the car quickly went away, and Doiron fell back through the field in the final 50 laps and finished in 16th place.

“The car was handling really well in the first segment of the race, but after that ten minute break the handling went away”, explains Doiron.  “We went with the wrong tire compound and we just went backwards from that point on”.

With the 2011 season now over at Cornwall, Doiron has just one more race remaining this season.  He and his team will travel to Brockville Speedway on Saturday, October 15th for the final round of the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series.

“We always look forward to coming to Brockville.  We have had some fun there over the years, and enjoy racing there at the track and have some fond memories of the place over the years”, says Doiron, referring mostly to the “Dream Weekend” that his father won at Brockville back in 1994.

“I certainly have to thank all of our sponsors, our crew that helps work on this car, and of course all the fans that come out and watch us race each week”, says Doiron.  “We would not be able to do what we do if it wasn’t for the support of every I just mentioned”.

Doiron Battles Slick Track Conditions in 358 DIRTcar Series Race at MIR

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - September 22, 2011

As the 2011 racing season begins to wind down, Joel Doiron and his 358 Modified race team look ahead to some big events on their schedule.  This past weekend consisted of a Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series race at Mohawk International Speedway, which was the final weekend of the season for the track.

The night began with the traditional time trials to start off the show and Doiron posted the fourth fastest time in his group, placing him fourth in the preliminary qualifying heat race.  Doiron maintained that spot, qualifying for the 75 lap main event, but missed out by one position of a redraw spot that would have placed him in the top 12 for the feature.  Doiron lined up in 14th place on the outside of row seven for the main event, but had a tough time navigating the slick track surface and fell back to 17th when the first and only caution of the race came on lap 25.  Doiron continued to struggle in the second half of the race, and finished a disappointing 20th.

“We were off in our setup tonight with the dry slick conditions”, explains Doiron.  “The track hasn’t been like this in our past visits to the track, so we really didn’t expect this going into tonight”.

This coming weekend, Doiron will finish out the season at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday as they conclude their Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified program that was postponed back on September 4th.  Before the rain, Doiron was the fastest car in his time trial group, and will start his qualifying heat from the front row.  Doiron will be hoping for a little Birthday luck at Cornwall, and hopes that he will be celebrating more then just his Birthday at the end of the night.

“It would be great to end the season with a good run in the Mr. DIRTcar Series race at our home track”, says Doiron.  “It would certainly make the Birthday a memorable one if we could bring home the win”.

After Cornwall, Doiron will have just one more race on his schedule for this season as he travels to Brockville Speedway for the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series finale on October 15th.

Rain Postpones Cornwall Season Finale; Doiron Looking to End the Season With Strong Finishes in Upcoming DIRTcar Series Races

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - September 8, 2011

It was set to be a Labor Day Weekend for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based 358 Modified team.  They had two events scheduled with a rare Thursday night event at Mohawk Raceway, a 50 lap Frenchie’s Chevrolet American Revolution Series event, and Sunday was the season finale at Cornwall Speedway, which featured a 125 lap Mr. DIRTcar Series/Canadian Nationals Series event.

On Thursday night at MIR, Doiron started the night with the usual qualifying heat race, and he started from the sixth position.  At the end of the eight lap race, Doiron had moved up to third place, qualifying for the 50 lap main event.  After returning to his pit area after the qualifier, heavy rain began to fall, and lasted for about 20 minutes.  It delayed the events by about 2 hours, but the show continued.  The extra time gave Doiron and his team time to make some changes to the car in preperation for the 50 lap feature.  Doiron started from outside of the seventh row in 14th place.  On lap eight, Doiron was involved in a minor incident on the track and had to restart the race from the tail of the field.  At the checkered flag, Doiron was scored in 16th place.

Cornwall Speedway has been having a tough time as of late battling with Mother Nature.  The last two weeks have been lost due to rain, and the forecast for Sunday called for even more rain.  The rain held off for much of the day though, and by race time it looked like they might just be able to get the race in.  The night started off with time trials and Doiron turned the fastest time in his group, giving him a front row starting spot for his qualifying heat race.  Unfortunately, Mother Nature returned just before the heat races were to start, and once again, Cornwall Speedway officials were forced to postpone their final event of the season.  The qualifying heats and 125 lap main event will now take place on Sunday, September 25th at 2pm.  Doiron will be looking to have a great finish, and celebrate his birthday at Cornwall Speedway.

Doiron and his team will have the weekend off this coming weekend, and will return to action on Friday, September 16th at Mohawk Raceway for their Mr. DIRTcar Series race.  The following week is the rescheduled race at Cornwall on Sunday, September 25th, and then they will end the season at Brockville on Saturday, October 15th.

Rain Forces Cornwall Cancellation; Doiron to Finish Season Third in Track Points

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - August 31, 2011

Just two weeks ago, Joel Doiron was third place in track points at Cornwall, and within striking distance of his first Cornwall Speedway track championship since taking the title back in 2002.  With two consecutive weeks of rain on Sunday nights canceling the final two points events at the track, Doiron will finish the season in third place in points.

“We would have liked to have those two races to see if we could have caught up to the leader in points”, says Doiron.  “That is racing though and we can’t control the weather.  We have been real strong the second half of the season, and we look forward to this weekend. Congratulations to Stephane Lafrance and his team on winning the championship. Stephane had a great year and is deserving of the laurels”.

With the final race at Cornwall this Sunday being a non-points event, Doiron will end the season third in track points, just 29 points behind the leader.  After struggling early in the year as the team learned the characteristics of their new Bicknell chassis, Doiron had a solid second half of the year, posting a win on July 24th, and also posting top five finishes in five of the last six events.

This coming weekend, Doiron will be at Mohawk International Raceway on Thursday night for their 50 lap Frenchie’s Chevrolet American Revolution Series finale.  On Sunday night, Joel and his team will make their final appearance of the season at Cornwall with a 125 lap Mr. DIRTcar/Canadian Nationals Series race.

After this weekend, Doiron’s schedule is up in the air for the rest of the season.  They will be back at Mohawk Raceway for their Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified series race on September 16th, and also plan to attend the Brockville Mr. DIRTcar event on October 15th.  There may also be races added on Joel’s schedule that will be announced at a later date.

Doiron Charges From Rear of the Field to Take Top Five Finish at Cornwall

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - August 16, 2011

It was a typical weekend for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario team with just one event on their schedule at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night.  Doiron has been near the top of the field in the second half of the season, and was closing in on the leaders in the battle for the 2011 Cornwall Championship.

The night began with qualifying heats at Cornwall, and Doiron struggled.  The racing surface was much different that it has been through the year, and Doiron fought an ill-handling racecar starting sixth and finishing in the same position.  In the 30 lap main event, Doiron started from 13th place, and began to move forward.  By lap 10, Doiron had moved up to 9th, still fighting the car on the unusually tacky racing surface.  The caution was out on lap 12, and Doiron had now moved up to seventh, and after 2 more laps of green flag racing, he picked up one more position and was now in sixth at lap 14.  The caution was back out for the final time on lap 23, and Doiron had now moved into the top five, and he held the fifth spot through the remaining laps.

“It was a bit of a struggle early on, as the track was a lot heavier than it normally is here at Cornwall”, says Doiron.  “We persevered, and were able to bring home a top five finish, so we are happy with that”.

This coming weekend, Doiron will be back at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night.  He currently sits third place in points at the track, and only 29 points out of the lead.  He is only five points out of second place.

Our 2011 racing season would not be possible without the assistance of our great sponsors. Mike Sauvé Construction, Doiron Auto Inc., W.H. Doiron Makes Rare Appearance at Mohawk Raceway; Cornwall Speedway Events Canceled Due to Rain

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - August 10, 2011

Joel Doiron and his team had two events on their schedule this past weekend with a rare stop at the Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York on Friday night before returning to the usual Sunday night home at the Cornwall Motor Speedway.

For only the third time this season, Joel Doiron was behind the wheel at Mohawk International Raceway looking for good run, and to have some fun with no points on the line.  The night began with the usual eight lap qualifying event, and Doiron started from the fifth position, and worked his way up to second place when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.  Doiron reported to the pit area and made just minor changes to the car as they were quite satisfied with the car’s performance during qualifying.  A full field of 28 Modifieds were on hand, and with only a few races at the track this season, Doiron would have to come from deep in the field in the 25 lap main event.  After just five laps of racing, Doiron had moved up to 11th place, and was into the top ten shortly after.  With 18 laps in the books, the caution was out, and Doiron had raced his way into seventh place, and hoping to capture a solid top five finish before the race was over.  The race resumed, and just one lap later, Doiron’s car stopped in turn two with a right front flat tire following contact with another competitor who had got out of shape in front of him. With only a few laps remaining, he returned and eventually ended the race with a 13th place finish.

On Sunday it was back to Cornwall Speedway, and after several strong runs the last few weeks, Doiron was hoping to get back to victory lane.  As the pit area began to fill up, the sky began to darken, and rain washed out the night’s program.

This coming weekend, Doiron will be back at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night.  He currently sits third place in points at the track, and only 16 points out of the lead.  Sunday will also be the final race in the Doiron Cup point standings, a series sponsored by Doiron’s father Ovide, at Doiron Engineering.

Doiron Continues Strong Second Half at Cornwall With Top Ten Finish in DIRTcar Series Race at Cornwall Speedway

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - August 4, 2011

It may have taken Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based team a few weeks to get acclimated to their new 2011 Bicknell chassis, but they are on quite a roll as they finish out the busiest month of the season.  Cornwall Speedway was playing host to the 358 Modified Mr. DIRTcar Series, and Doiron was hoping to put together a solid performance, backing up their win from the previous week.

The night started out well for Doiron, setting fast time in his group in warm ups, and backing that up with a strong qualifying effort placing him on the pole for his qualifying heat race.  With four cars qualifying to the 100 lap main event, and only the top two cars going to the redraw for one of the top ten starting spots for the feature, Doiron was hoping to land one of the redraw spots.  Doiron finished the race in the second position, and met his goal of landing a spot in the redraw.

The redraw took place during driver introductions, and as the last driver to pick, Doiron was left with the eighth starting spot.  He lined up on the outside of the fourth row to start the race.  The entire 100 lap went off with only three cautions for minor incidents, and Doiron maintained the eighth position for much of the race, finishing exactly where he started.

“It was a pretty uneventful race for us really”, claims Doiron.  “Any time you can run in the top ten with all of these guys here it is a pretty big accomplishment”.

Doiron will be back at Mohawk Raceway on Friday night, and then off to Cornwall this coming Sunday night as they embark on the final month of the season at Cornwall Speedway.  After that, the team plans to hit the road and do a little bit of traveling before ending their 2011 racing season.

Our 2011 racing season would not be possible without the assistance of our great sponsors. Mike Sauvé Construction, Doiron Auto Inc., W.H. Doiron Picks up First Win of the Season at Cornwall; A Return to MIR From a Different Perspective

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - July 26, 2011

It was a busy weekend for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario race team.  First it was a trip to Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York on Friday night, before coming back to Cornwall on Sunday for double features, making up for last Sunday’s rained out 30 lap feature.

It was a different view for Doiron at Mohawk Raceway on Friday, as he took on the role as crewmember as he stepped out of the car in favor of Eric Gauvreau.  Gauvreau’s Top Soil is on board with the Doiron team this year, and Joel was happy to let Gauvreau take the car out for the night.  He will get another opportunity later this season.  Gauvreau had his own car up until last season, before selling all of his racing equipment when their local track (Autodrome Edelweiss) closed.  He started from the back of the pack in the 25 lap feature, and moved up towards the top ten until a flat tire sent him to the pits.  He came back out and rejoined the field, advancing to 12th at the checkered flag.

On Sunday, Doiron was back in the car and the night started off well, as Doiron set fast time in practice.  He lined up seventh for the 30-lap feature held over from last week.  He moved up through the field quickly, taking over the third spot on lap four.  By lap ten, he as up to second, and began to challenge for the lead.  Just before halfway he made his move and took over the top spot.  Doiron went unchallenged for the remainder of the event and picked up his first win of the 2011 season.

“We had a great run here in this first race.  I have to thank my crew for all of their hard work, and all of our sponsors and fans for their support”, says Doiron.  “We have been having a hard time trying to get this new car figured out, but that last few weeks have been really good”.

Doiron’s great night continued with qualifying, and he started sixth and moved through the field to take the checkered flag once again.  Doiron lined up 13th in the second 30 lap feature of the night.  Joel struggled early, dropping to 14th at lap 7, but after avoiding a wreck on lap 10, he was back in the top ten, and moved through the field from there.  At halfway, Doiron was now up to eighth place, and advanced to sixth as the caution came out on lap 23.  On the ensuing restart, he moved to fourth place, and made it to third at the checkered flag.  It was a very successful points night for Doiron, and he has now moved into third place in points, just 16 out of the lead.  He also sits third in the family sponsored Doiron Cup with just one more race on the schedule on August 14th.

This coming week Doiron will be back at Cornwall on Sunday for the 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series.  In the coming weeks, Doiron will get back to Mohawk Raceway with Eric Gauvreau behind the wheel once again, and also plans to make a visit to Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park on a Friday night later this season.

Doiron Has Best Run of the Season With Third Place Finish at Cornwall

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - July 13, 2011

Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based 358 Modified team have worked hard all season long trying to get a handle on their 2011 Bicknell chassis.  After struggling the first few weeks of the year, Doiron is back on track, and nothing is more evident of that then their finish this past Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway.

Doiron arrived at Cornwall early Sunday evening and began to prepare for the nights events.  First up were qualifying heats and Doiron struggled early, and Doiron finished a disappointing seventh place.   The team made several changes to the car before the 30 lap feature, and they hoped the car would be much better for the main event.  Doiron started deep in the field, lining up on the inside of the tenth row in 19th place.  At the first yellow on lap three Doiron was up to 17th place and by the second yellow flag of the night on lap six he was in 14th.  Doiron continued to battle his way through the field.  At the halfway point of the race on lap 15, Doiron had moved into the top ten and continued to work his way forward.  At lap 20, the caution was out again, and Doiron was up to seventh place, and was clearly one of the fastest cars on the track.  Doiron made a brilliant move on the restart and soon took over the fourth spot on the track and continued to press on, picking up third with just four laps remaining and held that spot to the finish.

“We had a great car tonight.  We struggled in the heat race and made some changes to the car and it made a huge difference”.  This was the best we have run all season long, and hopefully we can continue to run this well the rest of the season”, says Doiron.

Next up for Doiron is another Sunday night race back at Cornwall Motor Speedway for a full racing program.  Doiron will be looking to build to build some momentum and pick up his first win of the 2011 season.

Doiron Has Top Five Finish at Mohawk Raceway; Finished 12th in Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series Race at Cornwall

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - July 6, 2011

Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based team added a night to their schedule this past weekend with a rare trip across the St. Lawrence River to the Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York on Friday night.  Doiron also raced at Cornwall on Sunday night in the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series event.

At Mohawk Raceway on Friday night, Doiron started the 50 lap main event from the 12th position and worked his way forward.  By lap 18, Doiron had cracked the top five and continued to battle his way towards the front.  At lap 29 he was up to fourth place and maintained that position through the duration of the race.

“We had a really good car tonight”, says Doiron.  “We have been working hard trying to get this car dialed in, and hopefully that is starting to pay off for us”.

On Sunday at Cornwall Speedway, the Big Block Modifieds were in town for their annual Super DIRTcar Series event.  First up were time trials and Doiron posted the fifth fastest speed in his group, earning the fifth position for his qualifying heat race.  He finished in fourth, locking him into the 100 lap feature.  After making some adjustments to the car Doiron was ready for the Super DIRTcar Series race, and he lined up from the 13th position.  Doiron dropped to as low as 15th at one point in the race, but continued to fight for every position and at the end of the race he got back up to 12th place.

Next up for Doiron is another Sunday night race back at Cornwall Motor Speedway for a full racing program.  Doiron will be looking for his first win of the 2011 season.

Our 2011 racing season would not be possible without the assistance of our great sponsors. Mike Sauvé Construction, Doiron Auto Inc., W.H. Doiron Scores Top Ten Finish at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday; Plans to add Mohawk International Race to Schedule this Coming Weekend

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - June 29, 2011

So far this season, Joel Doiron has scored top ten finishes in all but one event at Cornwall Speedway this season, and he entered the night seventh place in overall track points at Cornwall.  He was looking for another solid finish and climb even higher in the standings.  Just one race was on the team’s schedule, which is a typical weekend for Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario team.

The evening began at Cornwall with a pre race practice session, and after posting the fourth fastest speed out of the 22 Modifieds on hand, Doiron was optimistic for the rest of the evening.  Next up as qualifying heats, and Doiron lined up in the fourth position, outside of the second row.  Battling an ill-handling car, Doiron dropped to fifth at the checkered flag, and returned to the pits to make some changes before the feature.  During the intermission break at Cornwall, the track hosted their annual driver autograph and photo night, giving young fans an opportunity to get to see the drivers and cars up close.  It also gives drivers and fans both some time to interact with each other.  This is an event that Doiron looks forward to each year.

“It is always fun to get out and see the fans and talk to them about racing”, says Doiron.  The young fans especially really enjoy learning more about the cars, and for some of them, they very seldom get an opportunity to see the cars up close”.

With the autograph session now over, it was time to get ready for the 30 lap main event at Cornwall.  Doiron started from eighth position and after 10 laps, he continued to struggle on the dry slick-racing surface running in the ninth position.  As the halfway mark approached Doiron began to move forward, and by lap 18, he cad climbed to the fifth spot briefly.  With two laps remaining, the final caution was displayed setting up the final showdown.  Doiron was in the sixth position at this time, but dropped back to eighth at the checkered flag.

“We made contact with another car early in the race and punctured and bent the right front nitrogen shock making the car a handful to drive, and when it looked like we may salvage a top five finish and we ended up losing a few spots at the end”, says Doiron.  “The team has been working hard trying to get this new Bicknell car dialed in, and we are making some progress.  We will continue to work at it, and hopefully things will change soon”.

This coming weekend, Doiron will be at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night for the second race in the Frenchie’s Chevrolet American Revolution 50 lap Independence Day Weekend Classic.  On Sunday, Doiron make his weekly visit to Cornwall Speedway, as they host the Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series race.

With six laps in, Doiron was up to fifth, and then used a lap seven restart to advance to third. Doiron maintained the third position for the duration of the event.

I would like to thank all the guys for their hard work in the shop and here at the track, it is appreciated”.

Doiron Battles to a 10th Place Finish on Sunday Night at Cornwall Speedway

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - June 16, 2011

Early in this 2011 racing Season, Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario based 358 Modified team have struggled.  Doiron was looking to get back on track with another Sunday night visit to Cornwall Motor Speedway.  The team has been working hard trying to get a handle on their 2011 Bicknell chassis.

The night began with qualifying heats, and Doiron started from the fourth position and advanced to third before the checkered flag in the 10 lap race.  The 30 lap main event was up next and Joel lined from outside the third row in position number six.  As the green flag was displayed, Doiron held his own, and used a lap 2 restart to get into the top five.  Doiron held the fifth place spot briefly before falling back.  With ten laps remaining, he had fell back to 11th, and was looking to at least salvage a top ten finish before the race ended.  Doiron continued to battle the ill-handling car, but managed to climb back to tenth at the checkered flag.

“We are really struggling with the track conditions here so far this year”, says Doiron.  “The first two weeks were just really rough, and the last two weeks have been smooth, but very dry and slick.  Typically over the past years at Cornwall the track is never like this, so hopefully it returns to normal very soon.  In the meantime we will keep working hard and try and get the car working better”.

Doiron will be back at Cornwall Motor Speedway this coming Sunday hoping to get his first win of the 2011 racing season.

Doiron Survives Cornwall Double Header; Scores Top Ten Finish in 100 Lap Canadian Nationals Event

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - June 1, 2011

After rain postponed last weekend’s 100-lap feature at Cornwall Motor Speedway, Joel Doiron as anxious to get back to the track and get the season opening feature in the books at Cornwall.  Also scheduled was a regular race program including heats, and a 30-lap feature for the Small Block Modifieds.

The 100 lap feature held over from May 22nd was the first order of events for the Modifieds, and Doiron lined up from the 19th position to take the green flag.  With five laps in Doiron had advanced to 14th place.  After a tough 100 laps of racing, Doiron posted a tenth place finish, and upon returning to the pits, they made some changes the car and fixed some cosmetic damage that occurred during the feature.

With the feature now over, the team began to prepare for the scheduled program for the evening.  Doiron started his qualifying heat from the seventh position and worked his way to fifth at the checkered flag.  This put Doiron in the 11th position for the 30 lap main event.  On lap 17, Doiron came to a stop at the top of turn two and reported to the pits.  When the dust settled after 30 laps of racing, Doiron was scored in 14th place.

“It was a real tough night for everyone tonight with the track conditions the way they were.  It is not anyone’s fault, just with all this rain it has made the track so soft and just so rough”, says Doiron.  “Hopefully this coming week will be sunny and dry and we can get the track dried out”.

Doiron will be back at Cornwall Motor Speedway this coming Sunday hoping to get his first win of the 2011 racing season.

Doiron Scores 8th Place Finish at MIR Season Opener; Second Feature at MIR and Cornwall 100 Lapper Postponed Due to Rain

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - May 26, 2011

Joel Doiron and his Alexandria, Ontario team had a busy weekend planned.  It was opening weekend at both Mohawk International Raceway, as well as Cornwall Motor Speedway.  Mohawk Raceway was hosting a pair of 20 lap features to get the season started while Cornwall was having a 100-lap event for the Canadian Nationals.

On Friday night, Doiron made the trip across the border at Cornwall for some racing action at the Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York.  With qualifying heats in the books, Doiron and the team prepared the car for the first of two 20-lap features to start the season.  While running in eighth place with just a few laps remaining the rain came down, forcing the rest of the program to be postponed.  Mohawk official announced that the second 20-lap feature would take place prior to the scheduled events on Friday, June 3rd.

At Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday, Doiron arrived at the track for the first of three events in the Canadian Nationals at Cornwall.  36 Modifieds filled the pit area, and just like the previous race at Mohawk Raceway, races were stopped after the heats were completed due to rain.  This coming Sunday, May 29th will see double features for the Modifieds, including the 100 lap main event held over from last weekend.

Away from the track, on Wednesday in downtown Cornwall, Doiron took his car to sponsor Au Vieux Duluth in downtown Cornwall to put on display for a special Racing Against Drugs Promotion.  With Doiron being an advocate of this program, he was more then happy to participate.

Doiron looks forward to getting back on the track this coming weekend, and hopefully the weather will co-operate so they can get all of the scheduled events in this weekend.

Brand New 2011 Bicknell Has Joel Doiron Anxious for Upcoming Season

By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - May 26, 2011

The 2011 racing season is just around the corner, and Joel Doiron and his race team have been hard at work in their Alexandria, Ontario shop going over their new 2011 Bicknell chassis, and putting the car together for the upcoming season.  The new car, will not be the only changes for Doiron, as a completely different color scheme will adorn the panels of the car, getting away from the predominate light blue colors of the past several seasons.

Without disclosing just what the new colors will be until the car is complete and lettered, Doiron is very excited about the new look, and hopes that it will perhaps bring a little more luck to the team.

“The new color scheme will be very different from past seasons, but we felt it was an exciting change.  We are still working on some sponsorship details for the new year, and most sponsors from last season have returned to help our program”, says Doiron.  “The new season is coming up very fast, and we are looking forward to getting back to the track”.

The car will be unveiled to the public in Cornwall on April 11th to 15th as part of the annual Racing Against Drugs Program that Doiron works very closely with as part of his job with the OPP.  At the end of April, Doiron will take his car across the border at Cornwall to Akwesasne for another Racing Against Drugs function. Several hundred grade 6 students will take part in this educational event that focuses on racing as a healthy alternatives to using drugs. There may also be other events added before the season gets underway.

“I always enjoy putting the car on display to promote our loyal sponsors, and working with the Racing Against Drugs Program.  This is all part of the “Keeping Kids on the Right Track Program”, adds Doiron.

Doiron will be back at Cornwall Speedway racing each Sunday night in 2011.  Depending on sponsorship, Doiron intends to do a little more traveling than in past seasons, and may even run a few races on the 358 Modified DIRTcar tour.  Visits to other area tracks like Brockville Speedway, and Mohawk Raceway may also get scheduled in during the season.
